Traditions to watch.
Photograph and get involved in

If you`ve timed your holiday according to Fügen`s calendar of cultural events or if you`re just plain lucky, you`ll probably get to see on of the strikingly picturesque processions of traditional customs. In Fügen, tradition is a part of everyday life. have you ever ridden the Zillertaler steam locomotive train? It`s a romantic ride no guest wants to miss out on, and great fun for the kids, too.
Of course even we have to stop celebrating and yodeling to work sometimes. Fügen`s coat of arms shows a silver hoe and a silver turnip with three leaves, symbolizing both agriculture and the trades. It`s proudly displayed on a fresco in the center of town.

But like we said, preserving and carrying on the tradition in the form of dances, songs and folk music is an important part of life here, and not simply part of the "Tyrolean Evenings" so popular with our guests. On Fügen`s calendar of cultural events, each weekend is reserved for a different organization. Groups such as the hunting club, the tennis club, the historical militia, the  mountain rescue service, the miniature golf club, the volunteer fire company and the young farmer`s association all sponsor dances with music provided by bands known far and wide. The current schedule even includes a concert by the "Original Tiroler Kaiserjäger", a top noth band in the historical military uniforms of the Emperor`s elite troops. We love getting together at our favorite pub or Gasthaus lat in the morning, the traditional "Frühschoppen" time, or after a day`s work.
Talk about a happy hour! Why not come join us and have  some fun, Fügen-style. For us, the perfect way to end a great summer is the "Almabtrieb", when the cattle are brought back to the valley from their mountain pastures. Should a herd of especially dignified-looking cattle cross your path, take the time to look twice. You`ll see that the cows are wearing traditional headdresses of alpine flowers and branches, and you`ll hear the clanging of hudnreds of cow bells throughout the valley. They signal the beginning of autumn, with its bright days, vibrant colors and clear views of distant mountains. Fügen and Fügenberg continue to weave their magic spell, and you`ve really started to feeld at home here.
